DANIELA CALDERON LEMUS
COLLEGE OF ENROLLMENT
CURRENT AGE AND PROJECTED AGE UPON GRADUATION YEAR
An incredible amount of positivity, a tremendous love of life, kindness, and a deep consideration for others.
Reading for hours at a time, practicing photography, learning new languages, writing, and playing the violin.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF 5 YEARS AFTER GRADUATION?
Five years after graduation I hope to have a secure, stable job as a public relations manager or a writer. I hope to live abroad for a few years, if possible, while I work to compile short writings and the information needed to publish my own magazine. I hope that in five years I am living a happy, healthy, and bountiful life.
Ten years after college graduation I hope that I am a successful writer and photographer. I would like to be married to a kind, gentle man that likes to read and watch movies just as much as I do. I see myself living in a large, metropolitan city where the streets are always bustling with people and where there is always something to do. I hope that I am living a life free of cancer, but also surrounded by family and friends, and the many that continue to share their love. I hope that by this time my writing will have warmed the hearts of many.
TOP 3 GOALS
1. Publish my own lifestyle magazine or book series; I will strive to succeed in university and throughout my studies so as to obtain knowledge and expertise in creative/journalistic writing.
2. Establish an organization that would provide aid to the poor in third-world countries; I hope to achieve this goal by organizing fundraising events that would aid in purchasing simple necessities for those living below the poverty line. If and when I publish my magazine/book series, I hope to utilize a percentage of the profits to further benefit those in need.
3. Be fluent in at least four languages; two down, two to go! Currently, I am self-studying using online courses and podcasts. I hope to immerse myself in foreign language studies throughout my four years at university.
BIGGEST TAKE AWAYS FROM YOUR CANCER EXPERIENCE
Life is absolutely beautiful, and we are granted wonderful opportunities to achieve happiness every day we live. Cancer is merely an obstacle which we must overcome, and by the end of it, we are left with an overwhelming sense of success and invincibility, because nothing else will compare to the magnitude of this moment. There is good in all and everyone, so we must not question happiness when it comes to us in unexpected moments. Positive thoughts lead to positive results! One must have hope, for hope is what allows us to continue on in life as unique individuals. There is a long life to be lived after cancer – a life full of love, wonderful people, and beautiful places to see and explore. Hope helps us understand that there is so much more to fight for and to experience than the cancer which may feel so overwhelming. Life is not meant to be lived in the shadow of cancer, but out under the warm sun which follows suit immediately after.
